What is the OSRC and what is its purpose?
The Oklahoma Society for Respiratory Care is a not-for-profit professional association supporting Respiratory Care Practitioners throughout the State of Oklahoma. We are a chartered affiliate of the American Association for Respiratory Care.
The Society is formed to:
- Encourage, develop and provide on a statewide basis educational programs for those persons actively participating and/or interested in the field of Respiratory Care.
- Advance the science, technology, ethics and art of Respiratory Care through institutes, meetings, lectures, and the preparation and distribution of newsletter and other materials.
- Facilitate cooperation and understanding among respiratory care personnel and the medical profession, allied health profession, hospitals, service companies, industry, governmental organizations, and other agencies interested in respiratory care.
- Provide education of the general public in pulmonary health promotion and disease prevention.

How do I become a member?
If you are a member of the AARC and practice Respiratory Care in the state of Oklahoma, then you are automatically a member of the OSRC!
If you are not a member of the AARC, please consider joining! The many benefits of AARC membership are well worth it. To find out more, visit AARC.ORG. To renew or apply for membership, visit the AARC's Secure Application Page.
How do I obtain a license to practice Respiratory Care in the state of Oklahoma?
Respiratory Care licenses are issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. For specific information on the Practice Act and RC License, visit the Respiratory Care Practitioners page.
The OSRC does maintain contact with the OBMLS Respiratory Care Advisory Committee to facilitate communication with regard to topics of concern for RCPs in our state.
What educational events does the OSRC provide?
The OSRC has 2 annual educational seminars: the Spring/Summer Seminar is held in June, and the Fall Seminar in October. Both of these conferences provide excellent speakers, vendor exhibits, educational activities, social events, and, of course, CEUs. The annual Sputum Bowl is held during the Spring/Summer Seminar.

How many CEUs do I need, and does the OSRC maintain a record for me?
The OBMLS currently requires 12 hours of CRCE for each 2 year renewal period. For specific information on CE requirements, please visit our education page (left-hand column) for a link to a page that has this information.
The OSRC issues a CRCE certificate for seminar attendance - it is your responsibility to keep a copy of this! The OSRC also turns in its CE information to the AARC. If you are an AARC member, you can track your credits via the CRCE Lookup page. One more reason you should consider becoming a member if you're not!
Who are the OSRC officers?
The OSRC Contact Page has a listing of the officers, committee chairs, and their contact information.
When are elections held?
Nominations for officers are taken each year at the Spring/Summer Seminar. The elections take place during the late summer to early fall, and the results are announced at the Fall Seminar. The elections have traditionally been done by mail-in ballots; however, this year the plans are to switch to an online voting system, similar to what the AARC uses. Watch for more news regarding this!
When do the Officers / Board of Directors meet?
The Annual Business Meeting occurs during the Fall Seminar, and is open to all.
The regular meetings for the BOD are the third Thursday of each month, 5:30 pm. Location is at Community Hospital at Fountain Park, 3100 SW 89th, Oklahoma City, OK. Executive Board Room in the Front Lobby. Guests are always welcome, but please contact one of the officers first as sometimes last-minute changes occur. Typically, no regular BOD meeting is held in June or October due to the educational seminars.
How is our state represented within the AARC?
The AARC's House of Delagates (HOD) meets twice annually, at the Summer Forum and at the International Congress. The OSRC has 2 Delegates who participate in these meetings.
Does the OSRC have any publications?
The OSRC Newsletter is published quarterly, and mailed to the membership. You can view the newsletters online by going to the OSRC News Page (Adobe Reader required). If you have news items you would like to submit for publications, please contact the Newsletter Editor.
Who do I contact if I am interested in getting more involved in the OSRC?
The OSRC is an all-volunteer organization! We depend on RCPs in our state who give unselfishly of their time and talent to make the society work for everyone. If you would like to help, please contact one of the officers.
